So it’s that time of year again, when our entire neighbourhood for blocks all around, gets closed off to cars to make room for the thousands of people who will descend on us to laugh and have a great time during the yearly Just for Laughs festival. The streets are full or great and imaginative performances of all kinds, with wild and spectacular costumes. So to give you a little taste of what to expect, or to relive your memories, I went around doing some little videos on the streets for you to show off some of the cool acts.
Most of the street stuff is definitely fun enough (and FREE), but inside the big theatres on Rue St-Denis and Rue St. Catherine East are the big comedy shows and galas, and those can cost up to $200 for a good seat, but if you’ve got the money, it’s always very well worth it. I was lucky enough to go to one of the galas with my friend Warren who had an extra ticket. I had actually never heard of any of the comedians I saw that night, but I swear I cried from start to finish for 2 hours from laughing so hard.
A few years ago, back in 2005, I also was lucky enough to see Dame Edna here in person during Just for Laughs, which was a dream come true. And for the $180 I paid for the ticket to be in the first few rows, it was just the best night I could have imagined, especially when she gave me one of her famous gladiolas to swing along in the air while she sang her closing song. But anyhow, just check out my video below and if you can ever come up for Just for Laughs one year, I’m sure you’ll really enjoy it.
