My March break has not been what most people would consider an eventful one but I have enjoyed it. I wanted the time to spend with Bruce even though he has been busy with his studies and with work. I have been spending almost all of my time at Bruce’s apartment because there is more to do here than at my place. Well, not really, but I like being here more.
I have been playing his computer game “Civilization” too much again. I know Bruce doesn’t like it when I play as much as I do, but then again neither do I. I just can’t stop.
I’ve been reading my independant study book as well. “Down and Out in Paris and London” is the name of it. It’s by George Orwell. I feel lucky that I chose to read this book for my independant study because it is about living life in poverty and enjoying it. It has presented many new ideas to me which have made me feel good about my present situation, which is being a relatively poor student. It has helped me to appreciate the true value of money and it has shown me that there is no real distinct difference between beggars and the wealthy. I have enjoyed reading it a lot. I especially enjoy reading about the interesting lives of the people encountered in the book, that is my favourite part of all.
On Friday, Jeff Mahoney came to my apartment with a photographer from the Hamilton Specator newspaper, Matt MacCarthy. Actually he is a freelance photographer who does 90% of his work with the Spectator and the other 10% with corporate clients. I was impressed beyond words by his success. He seemed to be enjoying himself, working as a photographer. And he smelled very nice. Jeff did not stay for long, just long enough to chat and then he was gone.
Jeff Mahoney is the reporter from the Spectator who is writing an article about gay teenagers which stars me as the gay teenager. It is supposed to be issued on Saturday, March 27, 1993. I’m so anxious to see it, even though I already know everything it says. Matt spent some time photographing my silhouette in the window for awhile and we talked about photography. He went to Loyalist College to study photojournalism. I made a small account of my own education but he didn’t seem too interested.
It was suggested by Jeff Mahoney that I submit to the Spectator a picture to accompany the article. So I did. I sent in a partial silhouette of my extremely beautiful friend Aaron who I had just photographed in a series, because it was the only suitable one I already had ready, but it was no good to the photography department at the Spectator which is why they sent over Matt MacCarthy. I was so pissed off because having my first picture published meant a lot to me. Oh well. Bruce said that they would have put my picture in if I had taken Bruce’s advice and photographed a couple together instead of just someone solo. I wasn’t expecting him to act like that and it made me angry. I still don’t even understand it.
Tonight I made two raspberry biscuits and they were both delicious. I made Bruce a raspberry one and a blueberry one. I hope he likes them. I think he is at the university now. Either there or doing his laundry. I just came over here to give him his biscuits and to start my new computer diary. I really hope I continue writing regularly about my future experiences, whatever they may be. It will be great stuff to read in a few years.
